Title Burning Out Internet Respondents. Avoiding the Mistakes of the Past
Author Willke, J., Lundy, S., Mustard, D.

Abstract This paper discusses the issue of respondent burnout on the Internet and makes suggestions for preventing it. At the moment, the Internet seems a plentiful and inexpensive source of respondents, much like random-digit-dial, mail surveys, or central location interviewing did in their heydays. But we as an industry over-fished the waters with these latter methods and have seen a steady decline in their productivity over the past twenty years. With this paper, we hope to foster discussion on how to prevent the same fate from befalling Internet interviewing. To this end data and metrics from ACNielsen-BASES’ Internet work in the United States are provided for other companies to benchmark their practices against.
